Mantra-Nyāsa and Elemental Maṇḍalas: Nāga Invocation and Garuḍa–Bhairava Dhyāna for Protection
ॐ स्वाहा क्रमशश्चैव पञ्चभूतपुरोगतम् / एष साक्षाद्भवेत्तार्क्ष्यः सर्वकर्मप्रसाधकः
oṃ svāhā kramaśaścaiva pañcabhūtapurogatam / eṣa sākṣādbhavettārkṣyaḥ sarvakarmaprasādhakaḥ
“唵,娑嚩诃”(Oṃ, svāhā)——若依次第修行,并以前行召请五大(pañca-bhūta)为先,则此即直接显现为塔尔克夏(Tārkṣya,即迦楼罗 Garuda)自身,成办一切仪轨与诸事之成就者。
Lord Vishnu (teaching Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: When mantra is performed with proper sequence and elemental grounding, the invoked deity is not merely symbolic but ‘sākṣāt’—functionally present to accomplish karma.
Vedantic Theme: Saguṇa-upāsanā: deity-presence mediated through mantra and disciplined procedure; śakti manifests through ordered practice.
Application: Invoke pañcabhūtas in sequence, then chant ‘Oṁ…svāhā’ as prescribed; maintain steadiness and ethical intent for ‘sarva-karmaprasādhanā’ (successful completion).
Primary Rasa: vira
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: ritual-space
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.197.16 (tattva/bhūta nyāsa); Garuda Purana 1.197.18 (sānnidhya-kāraka mantra principle); Garuda Purana 1.197.20 (prāṇa as purifier)
This verse indicates that placing the pañcabhūtas ‘in front’—i.e., ritually acknowledging the elemental basis of embodied existence—makes the rite complete and supports effective manifestation of the intended spiritual aid.
It states that when the mantra-act is done in correct sequence with elemental precedence, it becomes ‘directly’ Tārkṣya—meaning Garuda’s protective and accomplishing power is invoked to bring the rite to successful completion.
Perform spiritual practices with correct order, clarity, and reverence for the elemental/body context; disciplined procedure (krama) is presented as a key factor for successful outcomes in ritual and ethical living.
