Bhagīratha Brings Gaṅgā; Saudāsa’s Curse; Khaṭvāṅga’s Instant Renunciation
na me brahma-kulāt prāṇāḥ kula-daivān na cātmajāḥ na śriyo na mahī rājyaṁ na dārāś cātivallabhāḥ
Mahārāja Khaṭvāṅga, being in favor of the brahminical culture, wanted to utilize one moment’s time by fully surrendering unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The Lord is worshiped with this prayer:
This verse declares that life, lineage, family deities, children, wealth, kingdom, and even a beloved spouse are not the highest priority—implying that devotion to the Supreme and higher spiritual duty surpass material and familial attachments.
To emphasize supreme love and priority for a higher spiritual principle/person over all worldly securities—showing the Bhagavatam theme that bhakti and dharma stand above social identity and possessions.
Perform duties to family and society, but keep your deepest loyalty with spiritual truth—reduce possessiveness, practice gratitude and service, and remember that status, wealth, and relationships are temporary compared to devotion and character.
