Concise Bhāgavata Account
svān svān bandhūn pariṣvajya lakṣmaṇeṣubhir arditān ruruduḥ susvaraṁ dīnā ghnantya ātmānam ātmanā
This verse depicts the immediate human cost of war: women embrace their fallen relatives and weep loudly, showing that even righteous conflict brings intense separation and sorrow.
Śukadeva highlights Lakṣmaṇa’s decisive role in the battle by noting that the fallen were struck by his arrows, setting the scene of aftermath and lamentation among their families.
It cautions that violence and conflict—however justified—create lasting suffering for dependents; one should act with responsibility, restraint, and seek dharmic resolutions whenever possible.
