prītyāṃ pulastyabhāryāyāṃ dattolis tatsuto 'bhavat pūrvajanmani so 'gastyaḥ smṛtaḥ svāyaṃbhuve 'ntare
Sage Parāśara (narrating to Maitreya)
This verse situates a major sage’s identity within the first Manvantara, showing how the Purana organizes sacred history through Manu-intervals to preserve cosmic chronology and lineage.
By stating that Dattoli is remembered as Agastya in a former birth, Parāśara presents rishis as recurring spiritual agents whose identities and roles can span different life-cycles within the Manvantara framework.
Even when Vishnu is not named, the Manvantara order and the regulated emergence of sages and lineages are presented as part of the divinely sustained cosmic governance upheld by the Supreme Lord.
