ब्रह्मन् प्रसादप्रवणं कुरुष्व मयि मानसम् येनाहम् एतज् जानीयां त्वत्प्रसादान् महामुने
brahman prasādapravaṇaṃ kuruṣva mayi mānasam yenāham etaj jānīyāṃ tvatprasādān mahāmune
Hỡi Bà-la-môn, hỡi đại hiền triết—xin khiến tâm con nghiêng về ân phúc của ngài, để nhờ phước lành ấy con thật sự hiểu trọn lời dạy này.
Maitreya
Speaker: Maitreya
Topic: Request for the sage’s grace so the teaching may be rightly understood
Teaching: Devotional
Quality: humble, supplicatory, guru-kripa-centered
Concept: Right understanding arises through the guru’s prasāda when the disciple’s mind becomes receptive and humble.
Vedantic Theme: Moksha
Application: Approach study and practice with reverence, prayer for guidance, and openness to correction by a qualified teacher.
Vishishtadvaita: Emphasizes prapatti-like dependence on grace (prasāda) rather than autonomous intellect alone.
Bhakti Type: Shanta
This verse highlights that true understanding arises not merely from inquiry but through the teacher’s grace, which makes the mind receptive to higher knowledge.
The text is structured as a guru-disciple dialogue: Maitreya requests clarity and blessing, and Parasara responds by unfolding doctrine—beginning with first principles and the order of creation.
Although Vishnu is not named in this line, the request for illumination sets the stage for Parasara’s exposition where Vishnu is presented as the supreme ground of reality and the source of cosmic order.
