Sūta Gosvāmi
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Night vigil (jāgaraṇa) on caturdaśī is a hallmark of Śivarātri-type devotion; presented as a direct purifier of bondage (pāśa) through disciplined bhakti.
Type: stotra
Offering: dipa
It teaches that disciplined devotion—fasting on the caturdaśī and keeping night-long vigil—combined with śravaṇa (hearing) or pāṭha (recitation) generates purifying puṇya that supports the seeker’s movement toward Śiva’s grace and liberation.
Caturdaśī-vrata and jāgaraṇa are classic supports for Saguna Śiva worship, especially in connection with liṅga-pūjā and night worship; the verse links outer observance with inner attentiveness through sacred recitation/hearing.
Observe a caturdaśī fast, remain awake in devotional vigil, and spend the night with Shiva-kathā—listening or reciting—ideally alongside mantra-japa such as the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”).
