Arjuna’s Mantra-Empowerment and the Pāṇḍavas’ Separation (Śiva-rūpa through Mantra)
इन्द्र उवाच । राज्यं त्वया प्रमादाद्वै न कर्तव्यं कदाचन । श्रेयसे भद्र विद्येयं भवेत्तव परन्तप
indra uvāca | rājyaṃ tvayā pramādādvai na kartavyaṃ kadācana | śreyase bhadra vidyeyaṃ bhavettava parantapa
Indra nói: “Trong việc trị quốc, chớ bao giờ vì lơ là mà hành xử cẩu thả. Vì lợi ích chân thật của ngươi, hỡi bậc hiền thiện—kẻ khuất phục quân thù—hãy ghi nhớ điều này và nắm giữ vững chắc.”

The verse warns against pramāda (heedlessness), teaching that vigilance and disciplined conduct are essential for one’s śreyas (true good). In Shaiva ethics, such self-mastery purifies the pashu (individual soul) and supports steady movement toward Shiva’s grace.
Though it speaks of governance, its inner thrust is steadiness and responsibility—qualities required for consistent Saguna Shiva worship (daily pūjā, vrata, and mantra-japa). Negligence breaks sādhanā; attentive dharma sustains devotion to the Linga as the living center of Shiva-bhakti.
A practical takeaway is daily, non-negligent discipline: fixed-time japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), maintaining śauca and restraint, and regular application of Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) as a reminder to remain watchful and not fall into pramāda.
