प्रणवमहिमा — The Greatness of the Praṇava (Om) as Śiva
ईश्वर उवाच । शृणु देवि प्रवक्ष्यामि यन्मां त्वम्परि पृच्छसि । तस्य श्रवणमात्रेण जीवस्साक्षाच्छिवो भवेत्
īśvara uvāca | śṛṇu devi pravakṣyāmi yanmāṃ tvampari pṛcchasi | tasya śravaṇamātreṇa jīvassākṣācchivo bhavet
Īśvara phán: “Hãy lắng nghe, hỡi Devī. Ta sẽ giảng điều nàng đang hỏi Ta. Chỉ cần nghe giáo pháp ấy thôi, jīva bị ràng buộc liền trở thành Shiva ngay trực tiếp (sākṣāt).”
Lord Shiva (Īśvara)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Promises transformative śravaṇa: hearing Śiva’s upadeśa is presented as a direct means toward śivatva (liberation), echoing the primacy of grace and revelation.
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: liberating
It declares the liberating potency of Shiva’s instruction: even śravaṇa (reverent hearing) of true Shaiva teaching, when received with faith and Shiva’s grace, transforms the jīva toward Shiva-realization—freedom from pāśa (bondage) and recognition of Pati (the Lord) as the soul’s goal.
The verse frames Shiva’s spoken teaching as a direct means of grace; in Shiva Purana practice, hearing Shiva-kathā is paired with saguna upāsanā—Linga worship, mantra-japa, and devotion—so the mind becomes fit for Shiva’s presence and the inner meaning of the Linga (Shiva as the supreme reality) dawns.
The implied practice is śravaṇa: regularly listening to Shiva Purana recitation or Shiva-tattva teachings with devotion; it can be supported by Panchakshara japa (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and simple Linga-pūjā, treating the act of hearing as a disciplined sādhanā.
