The Slaying of Dhumrākṣa
ताडितःसतयातत्रगदयाभीमरूपया ।सकपिर्मारुतबलस्तंप्रहारमचिन्तयन् ।।6.52.35।।धूम्राक्षस्यशिरोमध्येगिरिशृङ्गमपातयत् ।
tāḍitaḥ sa tayā tatra gadayā bhīma-rūpayā |
sa kapir māruta-balas taṃ prahāram acintayan ||6.52.35||
dhūmrākṣasya śiro-madhye giri-śṛṅgam apātayat |
Bị cây chùy hung tợn, hình dáng đáng sợ ấy đánh trúng tại đó, con khỉ có sức mạnh như Thần Gió chẳng hề bận tâm đến đòn ấy; nó liền ném một mỏm núi xuống ngay giữa đầu Dhūmrākṣa.
The Vanaras although strong were wielding maces, spikes, tridents, terrific iron bars and multitude of weapons of many kinds to crush the Rakshasas. They were endowed with prowess, knowledgeable of weapons and doing their duty without fear and with great enthusiasm.
Dharma here is protective strength: Hanumān absorbs harm without losing focus on neutralizing a violent aggressor threatening the righteous cause.
Dhūmrākṣa strikes Hanumān with a mace; Hanumān immediately counters by dropping a mountain-peak onto Dhūmrākṣa’s head.
