Sītā’s Lament over the Illusory Head and Bow
सतस्याःपरिपृच्छन्त्यावधंमित्रबलस्यते ।तवचाख्यास्यतेनूनंनिशायांराक्षसैर्वधम् ।।6.32.26।।
sa tasyāḥ paripṛcchantyā vadhaṃ mitra-balasya te |
tava cākhyāsyate nūnaṃ niśāyāṃ rākṣasair vadham ||6.32.26||
Khi bà hỏi, hẳn Lakṣmaṇa sẽ thuật lại rằng chàng—cùng đạo quân bằng hữu của chàng—đã bị các Rākṣasa sát hại trong đêm.
"When she questions, he may tell that you and your army were killed by the army of friends at night."
Satya as a duty in communication: the verse underscores the moral burden of conveying truth in tragedy and the harm caused when only a bleak narrative (or rumor) reaches loved ones.
Sītā imagines Lakṣmaṇa returning and being forced to explain events—reporting a night-slaying by Rākṣasas.
Sītā’s concern for truthful reporting and its consequences—she anticipates how words can wound and destabilize dharmic family order.
