Sita’s Lament and Prophecy of Lanka’s Ruin
उन्मत्तेव प्रमत्तेव भ्रान्तचित्तेव शोचती।उपावृत्ता किशोरीव विवेष्टन्ती महीतले।।।।
unmatteva pramatt eva bhrāntacitteva śocatī | upāvṛttā kiśorīva viveṣṭantī mahītale ||
Nàng than khóc như kẻ cuồng dại, như người mê loạn, như tâm trí rối bời; thiếu nữ ấy lăn lộn, quằn quại trên mặt đất như một ngựa cái non.
Bewildered or distracted or intoxicated, this young lady wailed, wallowing round on the ground like a young female horse:
Recognition of suffering caused by adharma: the epic invites compassion and a commitment to restore righteousness by ending unjust violence and abduction.
Sītā’s intense grief is described physically—she cries and writhes on the earth in Laṅkā’s captivity.
