Dāna: Types, Recipients, Timing, and Fruits
तीक्ष्णतापं च तरति छत्रोपानत्प्रदो नरः । यद्यदिष्टतमं लोके यच्चास्यापेक्षितं गृहे
tīkṣṇatāpaṃ ca tarati chatropānatprado naraḥ | yadyadiṣṭatamaṃ loke yaccāsyāpekṣitaṃ gṛhe
Người bố thí dù và giày dép sẽ vượt qua sức nóng thiêu đốt; và điều gì được ưa muốn nhất ở đời, cùng điều gì người ấy mong cầu trong nhà, đều sẽ đến với người ấy.
Pulastya (to Bhīṣma)
Concept: Dāna that removes immediate distress (umbrella, footwear) yields both worldly fulfillment and protective merit.
Application: Keep a habit of season-appropriate giving—umbrellas in heat/rain, footwear, water, shade—especially to travelers, workers, and pilgrims; frame it as service to Nārāyaṇa dwelling in all.

The verse praises giving an umbrella (chatra) and footwear (upānat), presented as a meritorious form of dāna (charity).
