The Procedure for Offering Piṇḍa (Funerary Rice-balls) — Gayā-māhātmya

Sūta (narrating the tirtha-mahātmya in the Uttara-Bhāga)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It praises Phalgu Tīrtha as a uniquely potent sacred site where divine merit manifests as tangible prosperity—turning scarcity into fruitfulness—signaling the extraordinary puṇya of the place.
By glorifying a tīrtha, the verse supports bhakti expressed through tīrtha-yātrā, reverence, and sacred remembrance—devotional acts that invite grace and auspicious results even in seemingly “phalgu” (meagre) circumstances.
Primarily it reflects Dharma-śāstric and tirtha-vidhi themes (ritual geography and pilgrimage merit) rather than a specific Vedāṅga; the practical takeaway is that place-based rites (snāna, tarpaṇa, dāna) gain amplified efficacy at renowned tīrthas.
