Adhyaya 8 — Harishchandra’s Trial: Truth, the Sale of Family, and Bondage to a Chandala

सत्यमत्यन्तमुदितं धर्मशास्त्रेषु धीमताम् ।
तारणायानृतं तद्वत् पातनायाकृतात्मनाम् ॥
Transliteration
satyam atyantam uditaṃ dharmaśāstreṣu dhīmatām |
tāraṇāyānṛtaṃ tadvat pātanāyākṛtātmanām ||
Translation
Trong các Dharma-śāstra, bậc hiền trí tán dương chân thật là tối thượng (đem lợi ích lớn nhất). Cũng vậy, hư ngôn được nói là cứu kẻ tâm không vững khỏi hiểm nạn, nhưng lại khiến kẻ tự thân vô kỷ luật (chưa được uốn luyện về đạo đức) sa đọa.
