Adhyaya 15 — Karmic Retribution: Rebirths After Naraka and the King’s Compassion in Hell
आसवं चोरयित्वा तु तित्तिरित्वमवाप्नुयात् ।
अयो हृत्वा तु पापात्मा वायसः सम्प्रजायते ॥
āsavaṃ corayitvā tu tittiritvam avāpnuyāt | ayo hṛtvā tu pāpātmā vāyasaḥ samprajāyate
Kẻ trộm āsava (rượu lên men) thì chịu quả báo sinh làm chim gà gô (partridge). Còn người tội lỗi trộm sắt thì tái sinh làm quạ.

Theft corrupts social trust and economic order; stealing intoxicants and tools/metals (iron) undermines both self-control and productive life. The assigned rebirths function as deterrent imagery and moral pedagogy.
It is ethical instruction (dharma/ācāra) and karma-vipāka, not a primary pañcalakṣaṇa passage.
Āsava relates to tamas and heedlessness; the partridge association can be read as restlessness and appetite-driven life. Iron signifies strength/industry; misappropriating it yields a scavenger-symbol (crow), indicating moral corrosion and dependence on others’ remnants.
