पाण्डवपरिचयः—विराटसभायां प्रकाशनम्

तद् भीष्मवाक्यं हितमीक्ष्य सर्वे धनंजयाग्निं च विवर्धमानम् | निवर्तनायैव मनो निदध्यु- दुर्योधनं ते परिरक्षमाणा:,अन्य सब योद्धाओंको भी भीष्मजीका वह कथन हितकर जान पड़ा; क्योंकि युद्ध करनेसे तो धनंजयरूपी अग्नि उत्तरोत्तर बढ़कर प्रचण्ड रूप ही धारण करती जाती, यह सब सोचकर उन सबने दुर्योधनकी रक्षा करते हुए अपने देशको लौट जानेका ही निश्चय किया
tad bhīṣmavākyaṃ hitam īkṣya sarve dhanañjayāgniṃ ca vivardhamānam | nivartanāyaiva mano nidadhyur duryodhanaṃ te parirakṣamāṇāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana nói: Thấy lời khuyên của Bhīṣma là điều lành, và hiểu rằng nếu cứ ép giao chiến thì ngọn lửa Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) chỉ càng bùng cháy dữ dội hơn, tất cả đều dốc lòng nghĩ đến việc rút lui. Vừa bảo vệ Duryodhana, họ quyết định quay lại và trở về xứ sở của mình—chọn sự thận trọng thay cho một cuộc chiến chỉ làm bùng lên tàn phá.
