समश्लिष्टौ तदान्योन्यं द्रोणपार्थों महाबलौ । दृष्टवा प्राकम्पत मुहुर्भरतानां महद् बलम्,महाबली द्रोण और दुन्तीपुत्र अर्जुन दोनों महारथी बल-वीर्य-सम्पन्न, अजेय, अस्त्रविद्याके विशेषज्ञ और मनस्वी थे। युद्धके सिरेपर वे दोनों आचार्य और शिष्य अपने- अपने रथपर बैठे हुए (ही एक-दूसरेकी ओर हाथ बढ़ाकर मानो) परस्पर आलिंगन करने लगे। उन्हें इस अवस्थामें देखकर भरतवंशियोंकी वह विशाल सेना बारंबार भयसे काँपने लगी
samaśliṣṭau tadānyonyaṃ droṇapārthau mahābalau | dṛṣṭvā prākampata muhur bharatānāṃ mahad balam ||
Vaiśampāyana nói: Bấy giờ Droṇa và Pārtha (Arjuna), cả hai đại lực, trông như đang siết chặt nhau trong một vòng ôm. Thấy thầy và trò đứng nơi rìa mũi chiến trận trong tư thế ấy, đại quân nhà Bharata lại run lên vì sợ hãi hết lần này đến lần khác.
