Adhyāya 14: Sudēṣṇā Sends Sairandhrī to Kīcaka’s House (सुदेष्णा–सैरन्ध्री–कीचक संवादः)
मया दत्तमिदं राज्यं स्वामिन्यसि शुभानने । भजस्व मां वरारोहे भुड्क्ष्व भोगाननुत्तमान्
mayā dattam idaṃ rājyaṃ svāminy asi śubhānane | bhajasva māṃ varārohe bhuṅkṣva bhogān anuttamān ||
Vaiśampāyana nói: “Hỡi người nữ dung nhan đoan chính, ta đã ban trọn vương quốc này cho nàng; nay nàng là chủ nhân của nó. Hỡi giai nhân cao quý, hãy nhận lấy ta và cùng ta hưởng những lạc thú tối thượng.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how political power and material prosperity can be used as persuasive tools in personal relationships. Ethically, it invites reflection on the difference between rightful generosity and coercive inducement—offering sovereignty and pleasures to secure acceptance.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, a man addresses a woman with flattering epithets, declares that he has handed over the kingdom to her as its sovereign, and urges her to accept him and enjoy unsurpassed royal pleasures with him.
