Educational Q&A

The passage teaches that disciplined austerity (a three-night fast) and reverent darśana of Śiva (Viśveśvara) with Pārvatī at a tīrtha can yield merit comparable to major Vedic sacrifices, emphasizing inner devotion and self-restraint as powerful means of dharmic attainment.

A speaker (Ghūlastya) describes the spiritual benefits of a particular sacred place: pilgrims who behold Viśveśvara with Pārvatī are said to attain the celestial realms of Mitra and Varuṇa, and those who fast there for three nights gain the fruit of performing the Agniṣṭoma sacrifice.
