The verse highlights rājadharma expressed through dāna and satkāra: a ruler’s prosperity is ethically directed when it is used to honor worthy recipients—especially brāhmaṇas—through well-arranged hospitality and gifts, thereby sustaining social and ritual order.
Vaiśampāyana recalls the addressee’s former royal abundance—thousands of well-prepared resources in the palace—and notes that these were used to regularly honor brāhmaṇas, contrasting past prosperity and public generosity with the present condition implied by the surrounding context.
