Educational Q&A

The verse presents an ethical valuation of character: a woman is deemed worthy of love and honor because she is recognized as satī—steadfast in virtue and fidelity—so esteem (sammati, bahumāna) is tied to dharmic conduct rather than mere power or circumstance.

Koṭika describes a woman (implicitly the Pāṇḍavas’ chief queen) as universally cherished and highly respected among the Pāṇḍavas, emphasizing her accepted status as their principal consort and her moral standing.
