The verse highlights disciplined pursuit of a task “as directed” (yathādiśam) and the role of wise, timely speech: divine beings act with purpose, and counsel from a knowledgeable figure (Agni speaking to Atharvan) becomes the pivot for the next ethical or practical step.
The gods, engaged in a search, arrive at the relevant place while following given instructions. Agni then encounters Atharvan and begins a conversation, signaling a transition to the next episode where guidance or a decision will be articulated.
