Indra’s Meeting with the Pāṇḍavas
युधिछिर उवाच कथं शप्तो5सि भगवन्नगस्त्येन महात्मना । श्रोतुमिच्छाम्यहं देव तवैतच्छापकारणम्,युधिषछ्िरने पूछा--भगवन्! महात्मा अगस्त्यने आपको कैसे शाप दे दिया? देव! आपको शाप मिलनेका क्या कारण है? यह मैं सुनना चाहता हूँ
Yudhiṣṭhira uvāca: kathaṁ śapto 'si bhagavan Agastyena mahātmanā? śrotum icchāmy ahaṁ deva tava etac chāpa-kāraṇam.
Yudhiṣṭhira nói: “Bạch bậc đáng tôn kính, vì sao đại hiền Agastya, bậc đại tâm, lại nguyền rủa ngài? Hỡi bậc thiêng liêng, con muốn được nghe nguyên do của lời nguyền ấy.”
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse models dharmic inquiry: before judging a person marked by misfortune (a curse), one should seek the underlying cause. It highlights moral accountability—actions and their consequences are to be understood through careful questioning rather than assumption.
Yudhiṣṭhira respectfully addresses a divine/venerable figure and asks to hear the backstory: how the sage Agastya cursed him and what circumstances led to that curse, setting up an explanatory tale in the following verses.
