Bhīmasena–Hanūmān Saṃvāda: The Tail Test and the Divine Path

hanūmāṁś ca mahāsattva īṣad unmīlya locane | dṛṣṭvā tam atha sāvajñaṁ locanair madhupiṅgalaiḥ | smitena cainam āsādya hanūmān idam abravīt |

Vaiśampāyana nói: Hanūmān, bậc đại hồn, khẽ hé mắt, dùng đôi mắt nâu mật ong liếc nhìn người ấy với vẻ khinh bạc nhẹ. Rồi mỉm cười, tiến lại gần, Hanūmān cất lời—mở đầu cho một cuộc đối đáp mang tính răn dạy, nơi lòng kiêu mạn bị chế ngự và sức mạnh chân thật được đo bằng sự tự chế cùng minh triết.

Educational Q&A

The verse frames an ethical contrast: true power is not mere aggression but controlled awareness. Hanūmān’s measured opening of the eyes and smiling approach suggest mastery over emotion and the ability to correct arrogance through calm, discerning speech.

Vaiśampāyana narrates that Hanūmān notices someone, opens his eyes slightly, looks at him with a hint of disdain, then approaches smiling and begins to speak—introducing a consequential conversation in the episode.
