Even amid external danger and obstacles, one should cultivate the highest mental collectedness (samādhi). The verse links practical caution (the mountains are guarded and difficult) with an ethical-spiritual response: disciplined focus rather than agitation.
A speaker addresses Yudhiṣṭhira affectionately, warning that the mountainous region is perilous because powerful yakṣas/rākṣasas (yātudhānas) guard it, and urges him to become especially concentrated and composed.
