The verse sets up an ethical caution: fearlessness without humility can become recklessness. By showing Yavakrīta moving about ‘without fear’ and approaching a revered sage’s hermitage, the narrative prepares for a lesson on restraint, respect for ascetics, and the karmic consequences that follow from arrogance and misconduct.
Lomaśa begins the episode of Yavakrīta: he describes Yavakrīta as roaming about confidently and then, during the month Mādhava (Vaiśākha), going to the hermitage of the sage Raibhya—an approach that will trigger the ensuing events of the chapter.
