Vaiśampāyana uvāca: apradānena rājyasya yadi kṛṣṇa suyodhanaḥ | sandhim icchen na kartavyaṃ tatra gatvā kathaṃcana, bhagavan |
Vaiśampāyana nói: “Hỡi Kṛṣṇa, nếu Suyodhana (Duryodhana) tìm kiếm ‘hòa ước’ mà không trao lại vương quốc—thì dẫu ngài đã đến đó rồi cũng tuyệt đối chớ nhận sự dàn xếp ấy dưới bất kỳ hình thức nào, ô Đấng Tôn Quý.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Peace is ethically valid only when it is grounded in justice. A settlement that denies rightful claims—here, refusing to grant the kingdom—amounts to a hollow ‘peace’ and should not be accepted even for the sake of avoiding conflict.
In the Udyoga Parva context of pre-war negotiations, Kṛṣṇa is being urged that if Duryodhana proposes a treaty while still withholding the kingdom, Kṛṣṇa must reject such terms and not legitimize an unjust compromise.
