Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Inquiry to Saṃjaya on Strategic Comparisons
ये चाप्यन्ये पार्थिवास्तत्र योद्धू समागता: कौरवाणां प्रियार्थम् । मुमूर्षव: पाण्डवाग्नौ प्रदीप्ते समानीता धार्तराष्ट्रेण होतुम्
ye cāpyanye pārthivās tatra yoddhuṃ samāgatāḥ kauravāṇāṃ priyārtham | mumūrṣavaḥ pāṇḍavāgnau pradīpte samānītā dhārtarāṣṭreṇa hotum ||
Sañjaya nói: “Và cả những vua chúa khác nữa, những kẻ đã tụ hội ở đó để giao chiến hòng làm vừa lòng nhà Kaurava—những người đã kề cận cái chết—đều bị con trai Dhṛtarāṣṭra đưa đến như thể để đem hiến tế vào ngọn lửa rực cháy mang tên Pāṇḍava.” Câu này đặt cuộc chiến sắp tới không phải như trò vui anh hùng, mà như một lễ tế u ám, nặng tính đạo lý: tham vọng và lòng trung thành phe phái đang đẩy các bậc quân vương tới chỗ tự diệt.
