न चेदिदं कर्म नरेन्द्र वन्ध्यं न चेद् भवेत् सुकृतं निष्फलं वा । इदं च तच्चाभिसमीक्ष्य नून॑ पराजयो धार्तराष्ट्रस्य साधु:,“राजन! यदि मनुष्यका किया हुआ यह पापकर्म निष्फल नहीं होता अथवा पुण्यकर्मोंका फल मिले बिना नहीं रहता तो मैं दुर्योधनके वर्तमान और पहलेके किये हुए पापकर्मका विचार करके निश्चयपूर्वक कह सकता हूँ कि धृतराष्ट्रप्त्रकी पराजय अनिवार्य है और इसीमें जगत्की भलाई है

na ced idaṃ karma narendra vandhyaṃ na ced bhavet sukṛtaṃ niṣphalaṃ vā |
idaṃ ca tac cābhisamīkṣya nūnaṃ parājayo dhārtarāṣṭrasya sādhuḥ ||
Sañjaya nói: “Tâu đại vương, nếu việc ác của con người không hề vô hiệu, và nếu việc thiện không bao giờ thiếu quả báo xứng đáng, thì—sau khi xét kỹ cả hành vi hiện tại lẫn những điều đã làm trước kia—thần có thể quả quyết rằng thất bại của con trai Dhṛtarāṣṭra là điều không thể tránh; và trong thất bại ấy mới là điều lành thực sự cho đời.”
