उद्योगपर्व — अध्याय 33: धृतराष्ट्र-विदुर संवादः (विदुरनीतिः)
य ईर्षु: परवित्तेषु रूपे वीर्ये कुलान्वये । सुखसौ भाग्यसत्कारे तस्य व्याधिरनन्तक:ः,जो दूसरोंके धन, रूप, पराक्रम, कुलीनता, सुख, सौभाग्य और सम्मानपर डाह करता है, उसका यह रोग असाध्य है
ya īrṣur paravitteṣu rūpe vīrye kulānvaye | sukha-saubhāgya-satkāre tasya vyādhir anantakaḥ ||
Vidura nói: Kẻ nào ghen tị với của cải, sắc đẹp, dũng lực, dòng dõi cao quý, hạnh phúc, may mắn và sự tôn kính mà người khác nhận được—thì lòng ghen ấy là một căn bệnh trong hắn, và là bệnh không thể chữa. Trong lời răn của Udyoga Parva, Vidura cảnh báo rằng đố kỵ bào mòn nhân cách và phán đoán, khiến hòa bình và chính hạnh trở nên bất khả.
