Bhīṣma’s Account of the Strategic Engagement with Rāma Jāmadagnya
ततोऊहं विप्रमुख्यैस्तैर्यैरस्मि पतितो रथात् । उत्थापितो धृतश्चैव मा भैरिति च सान्त्वित:,राजेन्द्र! ऐसी प्रार्थना करके बाणोंसे क्षत-विक्षत हुआ मैं रात्रिके अन्तमें प्रभातके समय दाहिनी करवटसे सो गया। महाराज! कुरुश्रेष्ठ! तत्पश्चात् जिन ब्राह्मणशिरोमणियोंने रथसे गिरनेपर मुझे थाम लिया और उठाया था तथा “डरो मत” ऐसा कहकर सान्त्वना दी थी, उन्हीं लोगोंने मुझे सपनेमें दर्शन दे मेरे चारों ओर खड़े होकर जो बात कही थी, उसे बताता हूँ, सुनो--
tato ’haṃ vipramukhyais tair yair asmi patito rathāt | utthāpito dhṛtaś caiva mā bhair iti ca sāntvitaḥ | rājendra! etāṃ prārthanāṃ kṛtvā bāṇaiḥ kṣata-vikṣato ’haṃ rātry-ante prabhāta-samaye dāhiṇī-karavaṭena suptaḥ | mahārāja! kuruśreṣṭha! tataḥ paścāt ye brāhmaṇa-śiromaṇayas rathād patane māṃ dhṛtvā samutthāpitavantaḥ “mā bhaiḥ” iti ca sāntvayām āsuḥ, te eva svapne darśanaṃ dattvā mama caturdiśaṃ sthitvā yāṃ vācam ūcuḥ, tāṃ te kathayiṣyāmi—śṛṇu ||
Bhīṣma nói: “Rồi những vị Bà-la-môn tối thượng ấy—những người đã đỡ lấy ta khi ta ngã khỏi chiến xa, nâng ta dậy, chống đỡ cho ta và an ủi rằng: ‘Chớ sợ’—lại hiện đến. Hỡi đại vương! Sau lời khẩn cầu ấy, thân ta rách nát vì mũi tên, ta nằm xuống vào cuối đêm, lúc bình minh, nghiêng bên phải. Hỡi đại vương, bậc tối thượng của dòng Kuru! Sau đó, chính các bậc hiền triết Bà-la-môn ấy ban cho ta một thị kiến trong mộng; họ đứng vây quanh ta và nói những lời nhất định. Ta sẽ kể lại điều họ đã nói—xin hãy lắng nghe.”
