Ulūka’s Message to the Pāṇḍavas

Educational Q&A

The passage frames fearlessness as grounded in rightful identity (lineage and duty), disciplined training (acknowledging one’s guru), and righteous support (Kṛṣṇa as ally). It suggests that when one’s cause is aligned with dharma and one is properly equipped—ethically and materially—self-doubt and fear should not dominate.

In the Udyoga Parva’s war-preparation context, a warrior asserts his credentials and supports—birth in the Kuru line, being Pāṇḍu’s son, discipleship under Droṇa, Kṛṣṇa’s alliance, and possession of the Gāṇḍīva—to rebut any claim that he is fearful, emphasizing readiness for the impending conflict.
