नारद उवाच दुर्लभो वै सुहृच्छोता दुर्लभश्न हित: सुहृत्‌ । तिष्ठते हि सुह्ृद्‌ यत्र न बन्धुस्तत्र तिछते,नारदजीने कहा--अकारण हित चाहनेवाले सुहृदकी बातोंको जो मन लगाकर सुने, ऐसा श्रोता दुर्लभ है। हितैषी सुहृद्‌ भी दुर्लभ ही है; क्योंकि महान्‌ संकटमें सुहृद्‌ ही खड़ा हो सकता है, वहाँ भाई-बन्धु नहीं ठहर सकते

Transliteration

nārada uvāca | durlabho vai suhṛcchrotā durlabhaś ca hitaḥ suhṛt | tiṣṭhate hi suhṛd yatra na bandhustatra tiṣṭhati ||

Translation

Nārada nói: Hiếm thay người biết lắng nghe thật sự lời của một bằng hữu chí tình, kẻ chỉ mong điều lành cho ta; và cũng hiếm thay người bạn dám nói vì lợi ích của ta. Bởi khi cơn đại nạn ập đến, chỉ bạn chân thật mới đứng vững—còn bà con ruột thịt thì nơi ấy khó mà bền lòng ở lại.
