Gāndhārī’s Grief, Vyāsa’s Pacification, and the Ethics of Retaliation (गान्धारी-शोकः शमोपदेशश्च)

आत्मनोऊतिक्रमं पश्य पुत्रस्य च दुरात्मन: । यदनागसि पाण्डूनां परित्यागस्त्वया कृत:

ātmano ’tīkramaṃ paśya putrasya ca durātmanaḥ | yad anāgasi pāṇḍūnāṃ parityāgas tvayā kṛtaḥ ||

Hãy nhìn vào điều sai trái do chính ngài gây ra, và cả do người con trai tâm địa ác của ngài—rằng ngài đã ruồng bỏ các Pāṇḍava dù họ không hề có tội. Câu kệ thúc ép một cuộc kiểm điểm đạo lý: tai ương đang mở ra hôm nay bắt rễ từ sự khước từ bất công đối với kẻ vô tội thuở trước.
