Vāmadeva’s Counsel on Rooted Kingship and Non-violent Victory (वामदेवोपदेशः—दृढमूलराजधर्मः)
भोगेषूदयमानस्य भूतेषु च दयावत:ः । वर्धते त्वरमाणस्य विषयो रक्षितात्मन:,जिसके वैभव-भोग दिनोंदिन बढ़ रहे हों, जो सब प्राणियोंपर दया रखता हो, काम करनेमें फुर्तीला हो और अपने शरीरकी रक्षाका ध्यान रखता हो, उस राजाकी उत्तरोत्तर वृद्धि होती है
bhogeṣūdayamānasya bhūteṣu ca dayāvataḥ | vardhate tvaramāṇasya viṣayo rakṣitātmanaḥ ||
Vāmadeva dạy rằng: vương quyền của một vị vua sẽ mở rộng vững bền khi phú quý và hưởng lạc ngày một tăng, khi nhà vua có lòng từ mẫn đối với mọi loài hữu tình, khi thi hành bổn phận với khí lực mau lẹ, và khi tự giữ thân mình trong kỷ luật nghiêm cẩn. Nhờ đức hạnh đi đôi với trị quốc hữu hiệu, quyền lực và bờ cõi của bậc quân vương ấy tăng trưởng dần dần.
