Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that ideal kingship rests on moral discipline: self-restraint (dama), truthfulness (satya), and goodwill (sauhṛda) in governing the realm, supported by the performance of great sacrifices; such dharmic rule yields lasting fame and an enduring heavenly reward.

Vasumanā is describing the fruits of righteous royal conduct: a king who properly guides and governs the earth with ethical virtues and performs major sacrificial rites attains great renown and reaches an everlasting station in heaven.
