Departure to Behold Bhīṣma

na sainikaiḥ na vā yātavyaṃ yāsthāmo vayam eva hi | na ca pīḍayitavyo me bhīṣmo dharmabhūtāṃ varaḥ ||

Educational Q&A

Even in victory and power, one should act with restraint and compassion: do not display force unnecessarily, and do not cause further suffering to a venerable person devoted to dharma.

In the Śānti Parva context, Yudhiṣṭhira is preparing to approach Bhīṣma (lying on the bed of arrows) for counsel; he insists they should not go with an armed retinue and that Bhīṣma should not be disturbed or burdened because of him.
