Sūrya–Nāga Dialogue on the Perfected Gleaner-Ascetic

Educational Q&A

Ethical authority and spiritual practice can coexist with residual attachment: one may teach and establish many forms of dharma and possess tapas and knowledge, yet still fall short of complete inner freedom if rāga (clinging/affection/passion) remains.

Vaiśampāyana reports a prophetic or evaluative statement about a person’s future role: the person is foretold to become a promoter of diverse dharmic practices and a dispenser of knowledge, living with austerity, but is also cautioned that total liberation from attachment will not be attained.
