Janaka–Sulabhā Dialogue on Mokṣa and Non-attachment
अवाप्तमेतद्धि मया सनातना- द्विरण्यगर्भाद् गदतो नराधिप । प्रसाद्य यत्नेन तमुग्रचेतसं सनातन ब्रह्म यथाद्य वै त्वया
avāptam etad dhi mayā sanātanād hiraṇyagarbhād gadataḥ narādhipa | prasādya yatnena tam ugracetasaṃ sanātana brahma yathādya vai tvayā ||
Vasiṣṭha nói: “Hỡi Đại vương, ta cũng đã thọ nhận giáo pháp vĩnh cửu này từ Đấng Cổ xưa—Hiraṇyagarbha—khi Ngài đang thuyết giảng. Nhờ nỗ lực chí thành, ta làm đẹp lòng vị Phạm thiên (Brahmā) nguyên sơ, tâm lực mãnh liệt ấy, và vì thế đạt được tri kiến vượt thời gian này—cũng như hôm nay ngài đã nhận từ ta tri kiến về Brahman vĩnh hằng.”

Spiritual knowledge of the eternal Brahman is transmitted through an authentic lineage and is gained through both personal effort (yatna) and the teacher’s grace (prasāda). Vasiṣṭha emphasizes continuity: what the king receives now is the same timeless wisdom Vasiṣṭha once received from Hiraṇyagarbha (Brahmā).
Vasiṣṭha addresses a king and explains the provenance of the doctrine he has taught: he himself learned it directly from Hiraṇyagarbha/Brahmā after striving to please him. He draws a parallel between his own earlier discipleship and the king’s present reception of the teaching.
