Adhyāya 284: Tapas as a Corrective to Household Attachment
Parāśara’s Instruction
परितुष्टो5स्मि ते दक्ष स्तवेनानेन सुव्रत । बहुनात्र किमुक्तेन मत्समीपे भविष्यसि
parituṣṭo ’smi te dakṣa stavena anena suvrata | bahunātra kim uktena matsamīpe bhaviṣyasi ||
Bhīṣma nói: “Hỡi Dakṣa, người kiên định trong những giới nguyện cao quý, ta hoàn toàn hài lòng với ngươi nhờ bài tán tụng này. Còn cần nói nhiều làm gì nữa? Ngươi sẽ được ở gần ta.”
भीष्म उवाच
Sincere praise offered with disciplined conduct (suvrata) is acknowledged as ethically potent: it earns the elder’s approval and results in closeness to the source of guidance, symbolized by ‘dwelling near me.’
Bhīṣma responds to Dakṣa’s hymn of praise, declares himself pleased, and grants a concise assurance—rather than elaborate speech—that Dakṣa will remain in Bhīṣma’s proximity, implying favor, protection, and continued access to instruction.
