Educational Q&A

Lasting attainment (siddhi) is grounded in four supports: knowledge (vidyā), disciplined austerity (tapas), restraint of the senses (indriya-nigraha), and complete renunciation of attachment/possessiveness (sarva-saṃtyāga). Vyāsa denies that any alternative shortcut can replace these.

Within the instruction-heavy Shānti Parva, Vyāsa delivers a direct ethical-spiritual maxim to the listener, emphasizing inner discipline and renunciation as prerequisites for genuine success and spiritual fulfillment.
