युधिष्ठिरने पूछा--पितामह! व्रतयुक्त द्विजगण वेदोक्त सकामकर्मोंके फलकी इच्छासे हविष्यान्नका भोजन करते हैं, उनका यह काय उचित है या नहीं? ।।
bhīṣma uvāca | avedoktavratopetā bhuñjānāḥ kāryakāriṇaḥ | vedokteṣu ca bhuñjānā vratlubdhā yudhiṣṭhira ||
Bhīṣma nói: “Yudhiṣṭhira, những kẻ nương theo các giới nguyện không được Veda chuẩn nhận mà ăn đồ cúng tế (haviṣya) thì chỉ hành động theo ý riêng. Và ngay cả những người ăn trong các nghi trì được Veda chuẩn nhận—làm lễ với lòng ham muốn kết quả—cũng phải bị xem là ‘tham luyến quả của giới nguyện’; bị trói buộc bởi sự thèm khát ấy, họ vẫn còn mắc vào vòng trở lại thế gian nhiều lần.”
