Bhīṣma nói: “Những ai ở đời sau được hưởng phúc lạc trong hội chúng chư thiên và các Pitṛ, lại vui vầy cùng con cháu, thì đạt đến một cảnh giới vô thượng, không gì sánh kịp.”
भीष्य उवाच
Bhīṣma teaches that dharmic conduct yields the highest posthumous destiny: one gains honored association with the gods and the ancestors, and one’s joy is also reflected in the well-being and continuity of one’s descendants—suggesting that virtue uplifts both the individual and the lineage.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma and the fruits of righteous living. Here he describes the exalted state attained by the virtuous—enjoying in the company of devatās and pitṛs and rejoicing with sons and grandsons—thereby emphasizing the intergenerational and otherworldly rewards of dharma.
