Adhyāya 199: Karma–Jñāna Causality and the Nirguṇa Brahman

Manu’s Instruction

सोद्य ब्राह्मंं तपस्तेपे संहितां संयतो जपन्‌ । तस्य वर्षसहस््रं तु नियमेन तथा गतम्‌,वह अर्थज्ञानपूर्वक संहिताका जप करता हुआ इन्द्रियोंको संयममें रखकर ब्राह्मणोचित तपस्या करने लगा। नियमपूर्वक जप-तप करते हुए उसके एक हजार वर्ष व्यतीत हो गये

so 'dya brāhmaṁ tapas tepe saṁhitāṁ saṁyato japan | tasya varṣa-sahasraṁ tu niyamena tathā gatam ||

Bhīṣma nói: “Rồi ông bắt đầu thực hành khổ hạnh đúng với phẩm hạnh của một bà-la-môn: chế ngự các căn, và không ngừng tụng niệm thánh bộ (saṃhitā) với sự hiểu biết về ý nghĩa. Cứ thế, giữ giới nguyện nghiêm mật và hành trì đều đặn, trọn một nghìn năm đã trôi qua đối với ông trong japa và tapas.”
