भीष्म उवाच अत्र ते वर्तयिष्यामि नीतिमापत्सु भारत । उत्सृज्यापि घृणां काले यथा वर्तेत भूमिप:

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca | atra te vartayiṣyāmi nītim āpatsu bhārata | utsṛjyāpi ghṛṇāṃ kāle yathā varteta bhūmipaḥ ||

Translation

Bhīṣma nói: “Ở đây ta sẽ giảng cho con, hỡi Bhārata, chính sách cần theo trong thời tai biến—rằng một vị vua, khi thời thế đòi hỏi, phải hành động với quyết đoán đúng lúc, dẫu có phải gác lại lòng thương xót.”
