Draupadī’s Exhortation on Rājadharma and Daṇḍa (द्रौपद्याः राजधर्मोपदेशः)

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical tension between personal withdrawal and responsibility: when one’s dependents and companions are distressed and seeking rightful governance, mere detachment is not praised; timely affirmation and leadership aligned with dharma are implied as necessary.

Draupadī addresses Arjuna (Pārtha), observing that his brothers are emotionally and morally drained after hearing his resolve; they plead for him to accept rule and act. She reproaches him for not encouraging or acknowledging them despite their urgent appeals.
