यम्सित्रं भीतवत्साध्यं यन्मित्र॑ भयसंहितम् । सुरक्षितव्यं तत् कार्य पाणि: सर्पमुखादिव
yam mitraṁ bhītavat sādhyaṁ yan mitraṁ bhaya-saṁhitam | surakṣitavyaṁ tat kāryaṁ pāṇiḥ sarpa-mukhādiva ||
Bhīṣma nói: “Tình bằng hữu do một kẻ đang sợ hãi kết lập, và tình bằng hữu trong đó người ta làm bạn mà vẫn mang nỗi sợ—những tình bằng hữu như thế phải được xử trí với sự gìn giữ cẩn trọng. Hãy cùng nhau lo việc cho nhau, nhưng luôn tự bảo vệ mình, như người điều khiển rắn chỉ biểu diễn khi vẫn giữ tay tránh xa miệng rắn.”
