भीष्म उवाच शृणु कौरव्य यो दण्डो व्यवहारो यथा च स: । यस्मिन्‌ हि सर्वमायत्तं स दण्ड इह केवल:

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca: śṛṇu kauravya yo daṇḍo vyavahāro yathā ca saḥ | yasmin hi sarvam āyattaṃ sa daṇḍa iha kevalaḥ ||

Translation

Bhīṣma nói: “Hãy lắng nghe, hỡi hậu duệ nhà Kuru. Ta sẽ giảng cho con biết Daṇḍa thực sự là gì, và vì sao nó được gọi là ‘vyavahāra’ (sự sắp đặt công việc, thủ tục pháp lý, và việc trị nước trong thực hành). Bởi điều mà mọi sự trong thế gian này đều nương tựa—chỉ riêng điều ấy được gọi là Daṇḍa ở đây, sức mạnh độc nhất nâng đỡ trật tự xã hội.”
