The Nature, Forms, and Function of Daṇḍa
मृदुशीलं तथा प्राज्ञं शूरं चार्थविधानवित् । स्वकर्मणि नियुञ्जीत ये चान्ये च बलाधिका:
mṛduśīlaṃ tathā prājñaṃ śūraṃ cārthavidhānavit | svakarmaṇi niyuñjīta ye cānye ca balādhikāḥ ||
Bhīṣma nói: Vua hiểu rõ phương cách thành tựu công việc phải bổ nhiệm đúng phận sự: người tính tình nhu hòa, người trí tuệ, người dũng mãnh; lại cũng dùng những kẻ khác vượt trội về sức lực. Đạo lý là: trị nước thành công khi giao việc theo phẩm chất, năng lực, lòng can đảm và sức gánh vác, chứ không theo thiên vị.
