ऋषिसमागमः — युधिष्ठिरस्य शोकवर्णनम्

यह द्रुपदकुमारी कृष्णा अपने पुत्रोंके मारे जानेसे अत्यन्त दीन हो गयी है। इस बेचारीके भाई-बन्धु भी मार डाले गये। यह हमलोंगोंके प्रिय और हितमें सदा लगी रहती है। मैं जब-जब इसकी ओर देखता हूँ तब-तब मेरे मनमें अधिक-से-अधिक पीड़ा होने लगती है।। इदमन्यत् तु भगवन् यत् त्वां वक्ष्यामि नारद | मन्त्रसंवरणेनास्मि कुन्त्या दुः:खेन योजित:,भगवन् नारद! यह दूसरी बात जो मैं आपसे बता रहा हूँ और भी दु:ख देनेवाली है। मेरी माता कुन्तीने कर्णके जन्मका रहस्य छिपाकर मुझे बड़े भारी दुःखमें डाल दिया है
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca | iyam drupadakumārī kṛṣṇā putrāṇāṃ nidhane nātīva dīnā jātā | asyāś ca bhrātṛ-bandhavā api nihātāḥ | eṣā asmākaṃ priyā hitaiṣiṇī ca sadā | yāvad yāvad enam paśyāmi tāvat tāvad mama manasi bhūyo-bhūyaḥ pīḍā vardhate || idam anyat tu bhagavan yat tvāṃ vakṣyāmi nārada | mantra-saṃvaraṇenāsmi kuntyā duḥkhena yojitaḥ ||
Yudhiṣṭhira nói: “Krishna, con gái của Drupada (Draupadī), đã bị nghiền nát bởi cảnh các con nàng bị sát hại. Anh em và thân tộc của nàng cũng đã ngã xuống. Nàng vốn luôn là người ta yêu quý và bền lòng vì lợi ích của chúng ta. Mỗi lần nhìn nàng, tim ta lại bị đâm thấu bởi nỗi đau càng lúc càng tăng. Và, bạch Nārada đáng tôn, còn một điều nữa ta phải thưa—càng thảm khốc hơn: mẹ ta, Kuntī, đã che giấu bí mật về sự ra đời của Karṇa, khiến ta bị trói buộc trong nỗi sầu sâu thẳm.”
